Up to now, in the German market, all the major airlines have been displayed in all the reservation systems (GDS) that are used and, this way, the travel agencies have been able to book them consistently.
However, in 2013, Germanwings started with a new distribution model and, instead, it relies on its own website for all sales and the full range of fares (Full Content) is only available there.
The challenge to continue offering customers all the airfares available on the market was one that Lufthansa City Center effectively addressed early and it was the first travel agency chain in the German market to establish a direct connection (Direct Connect) with Germanwings, which guarantees Full Content.
Lufthansa City Center started to withdraw from GDS in 2007 already and, therefore, introduced a front and mid-office system that works independently from GDS. This allows Lufthansa City Center to pool both GDS content as well as the content from various other non-GDS-enabled airlines and airfares. All routes and prices from various sources (GDS and Direct Connect) are clearly displayed at a glance and access to Full Content is ensured.
The familiar booking, invoicing and reporting processes will, of course, remain. All bookings made via Direct Connect are integrated into the reporting system, thus enabling an overview of all trips booked.
